Okay, So i have a Bichon Frise… he’s about 1.5 yrs old, was neutered a year ago and recently has gotten into enjoying his penis… he’ll lick it for an hour or go and hump his stuffed animals. I know that it’s normal for dogs to enjoy the action, however, his penis has been erect & sticking out about 1/2″ – 1″ for over 3 days… is this normal or should I take him to the Vet?? I’d love to get him a female companion but we’re in the midst of moving across the country and don’t think we could handle a major investment of a puppy toting along on the ride too… I grew up with a male maltese and don’t recall ever encounting this situation, so we’re just a little worried.

I believe it’s like viagra, if you’re erections last more than 4 hours you should seek medical attention. But his penis can become dried out. I would try to keep it moist.

I also have a Bichon Frise and had the same exact problem. The only solution I found was to lend him a hand. I know it sounds disheartening or makes an interesting situation, but let me tell you, he was relieved! I no longer “give him a hand,” I since have also constructed a fake girl dog for my little guy using foam rubber construct. He is a happy camper and humper!

Neutering does nothing to diminish a dog’s sex drive. It simply prevents them from fertilizing a bitch.

I would take him to the vet. This may be caused by a urinary tract infection.

Well.. NO it’s not normal.. Neither is it normal that you allow him to obsessively lick the thing for an hour or more.. You should also discourage him from humping his stuffed animals… He isn’t enjoying the humping, he is displaying dominant behaviour. If his penis is sticking otu 1/2 ” all the time.. and for 3 days straight.. You should take him to the vet.. That thing gets stuck out and dries up and you will wish you hadn’t sat around watching his penis stick out all the time.. Come on, you know it’s not normal… SInce when is a penis sticking out constantly .. considered normal. Unless you are feeding him Viagara, he is not normal.
