I often see women with very small dogs which they carry around in bags which resemble purses or tote bags. What are the breeds of dogs which are small enough to do this with? If someone could provide a list of a few, it would be appreciated.
Okay, before someone tries to report me for animal abuse…I do not want to put the dog in a bag. I am just trying to specify that I want an extremely small dog. When I peope before they say things like beagles or dachsunds, which can way up to 25 pounds. All I want is a tiny dog, and this is my way of qualifying how tiny. I am not planning on carrying it in a bag myself.

Any dog that is “teacup” size. Poodles, mini-daschunds, chihuahuas, mini-terriers are just a few.

Chihuahua, Maltese, and Yorkies are common purse dogs (or bag rats as I call them LOL). Just FYI there is no such thing as a teacup of any breed.

the only type of animal that should be carried around in a “bag” is a marsupial such as a kangaroo. other than that it’s just an accessory. if you are looking for an accessory then buy a necklace.

Why? Dogs are animals that: urinate, deficate, drool, shed, vocalize, get sick, need exercise & training, have feelings, & live 10-15 years- NOT purse accesories/fad-of-the-moment TOYS to be disposed of when this trend ends, understand?
They a a COMMITMENT, not to be taken on lightly or irresponsibley.

Well as long as you aren’t just using them as accessories. Schizo, Pomeranian, toy poodle, and any mini or toy dogs.

I feel sorry for dogs that are carried around like accessories in purses. I rather just carry my dog around in my arm {depending on the situation, (like when she’s whining or trying to get loose to go say “hello” to another dog)} or preferably my favorite walk her on a leash, as to sticking her in a bag. It’s just not right. *My opinion*
Anways to answer your question most toy breed dogs are small enough to be carried around in that manner such as: pugs, toy poodles, shih Tzu, Yorkies, Toy Fox Terriers, Pomeranian, Papillion, Miniature Pinscher, Maltese, and soon on.

the breeds which are small toy breeds like minature pinscher, toy terriers, some terriers are also small enough, like the yorkshire or west highland white terrier. there are a few sporting breeds like the cocker spaniel, whch might be small enough.
Why any one would want to subject a dog to a life as a hand bag I do not know. This practice can cause behavior problems in the animal.
