Big Dogs beacuse if you have a large bed they can be the same kind of dog but a tad bigger.

I like big dogs personally. I have a 100lb lab. He can guard us (sorta) and sleep in our bed if we want. LOL

But small dogs have their place too, and often come with big personalities.

First off, Great Danes can sleep with you too.. Infact they LOVE TO lay on soft things.. Great Danes are really not used for Protection, they are intimidating and they will bark and even growl but they are not used as protection dogs, Great Danes are as loveable as a yorkie and enjoy being a lap dog..
My danes and I fight over the couch.. LOL. .whoever gets there first gets the couch.. (i sometimes have to sit somewhere else) but again they are just as loveable.. and they get just as much attention as a yorkie. if not MORE.. cause people are like WOW, look at that dog!!

I have a yorkie and she is the most loveable little dog that I’ve ever seen. If anyone comes near my house she starts barking until I check everything. Mine is strictly a house dog

I have a mixed breed Yorkie/ Terrier. She is small about 15 lbs. She sleeps with me and even though she is friendly I am pretty sure she would defend me if someone tried to hurt me.

Great Danes don’t tend to make great guard dogs unless you get one with a crappy temperament (in which case it will end up biting YOU) or deliberately make it nasty (ditto). I read a study at one point which said that most burglars/break-in artists will avoid houses with noisy dogs, be they large or small. So get a dog that BARKs (Shelties are good).

Def a big dog, they can guard you and are so loving aswell, much better than a little yappy thing!

A big dog defiantly because they are great companions! Mastiffs are awesome companions and very friendly. Another thing is that they will protect you. The only reason you would not want a big dog is if you have an apartment. Another good choice is a Great Dane.

depends on what you are looking for, smaller dogs tend to be more high maintenance and are loud, while bigger dogs tend to be more docile and laid back of course their are exceptions to every rule.I love big dogs! they are so affectionate and usually well behaved. they do not have “little man syndrome” where they think they need to compensate for their size by being loud and obnoxious.

what do you mean my great Dane sleeps with me and so does my Yorkie.
they are both great guard dogs, and go everywhere with me

    Small dogs…
    Live longer
    Less hip problems
Not involved in home insurance rates
Good guard dogs because of the noise alert
Very fragile, especially with fluctuating patellas (dislocated knee caps from jumping)
    eat less/poop less

    Large dogs…
    Hip displasia (sp??)
    Much shorter life spans
    More expensive home insurance rates
defend their masters at all costs
    Intimidating for burglars
    big babies
    Eat more/poop more

Both types have great benefits. It’s a matter of personal choice. I’ve had both kinds.

Which is better? How about which ever one YOU can love and care for. How about which ever one YOU decide YOU cannot live without. In my opinion the dog I love and that I could not imagine living without is my beloved Miniature Pincher.

If you live in an apartment a yorkie. If you live in a house with a lg. yard a great dane. Most apartments have an animal weight limit, and a great dane would not be in that category as a full grown dog.

Great Dane all the way. My boyfriend and I have one named Duke that we took in when a friend of a friend had to get rid of him. He hadn’t taken very good care of duke, always making him stay outside, not feeding him properly or giving him the right love/exercise etc. We took duke in when he was 2 years old. He is literally the best dog I’ve ever known, so sweet and well behaved, always trying to please and so greatful he was rescued. Also yes at 140 lbs, they are good guard dogs but only by the look. Too sweet to do any damage I think, unless it really came down to a crazy situation with someone hurting me or something. Plus, if you’ve got a king size bed and you keep them clean you could have the best of both worlds!

I’ve had several dogs as pets…None was a Yorkie, but I did have a Scottie and a Great Dane. Both were favorites, neither shed hair except the GD when being brushed.

Both were extremly loyal and protective. The Great Dane was not considered a guard dog but he did intimidate…especially the unwanted while on walks and runs in parks. The Scottie intimidated nobody and didn’t need runs in the park.

The Great Dane needed more attention. food, maintenance and room. It was difficult to find a proper kennel when he couldn’t travel.

The Scottie was a great family dog that was introduced to an existing family. The Great Dane was a loyal dog to his master when he was single. He accepted my wife only after she prepared daily his food and water. After 5 yrs, it became necessary to find another home when children arrived. It was too late for him to adjust to another attention-getter under the same roof.

The Great Dane loved adult friends, the outdoors…running, walking, retrieving, and showing off. The Scottie loved kids, the backyard, chasing squirrels, and watching nature shows on tv.

If you’re alone or have an established family, the Great Dane or Yorkie would be fine. If you’re planning additions it will probably be difficult for either…your call.

Depends on you . Great Danes are intimidating so most people wont approach it. They can be very cuddly and sweet despite thier size. Yorkies are awesome little fellows. They can do the same as the Great Dane but when they jump on you it won’t knock the wind out of you or,if your a guy, won’t damage your jewels.
